The reasons for its obscurity became obvious once the 54-minute feature got revived in theaters in the early 1990s. The Beast of Yucca Flats is a very, very strange movie, even within the genre of ultra-low-budget sci-fi and horror. Produced by Anthony Cardoza, it has a level of cinematic ineptitude just about equal to that of Edward D. Wood Jr. (and uses two members of Wood's \"\"stock company,\"\" Tor Johnson and Conrad Brooks, but it utilizes structural and cinematic elements closer in style to Ronnie Ashcroft of Astounding She-Monster fame. It's bizarre in its pacing, structure, script, and editing -- almost non-linear at times -- and as a result, not without interest. How many movies made outside of Italy (where they loop in all audio) have not a single line of undubbed dialogue, and perhaps not a single sound that isn't dubbed after the fact? The DVD does look amazingly good -- and far better than any theatrical showing in this reviewer's experience. The sound is a major improvement over the theatrical version of the movie, conceding that most of the sound consists of the same three minutes of tumultuous music (mostly lifted out of The Astounding She-Monster) and a few effects and very badly looped voices, plus a bizarre narration. If one has to see the movie, however, this is the way to see it, broken down into eight chapters, which are more than adequate in a movie running less than an hour.
