{"product_id":"0683070935528","title":"Citizen Welles [2 Discs]","description":"\"FOCUSfilm Entertainment's double-disc package of Citizen Welles bundles two restored versions of lesser-known films directed by and starring Orson Welles: The Stranger (1946, 95 minutes, full frame), his only stab at making a \"\"conventional\"\" Hitchcockian thriller, and The Trial (1963, 118 minutes, widescreen), a stylized retelling of the Franz Kafka classic. On both discs film critic Jeffrey Lyons offers enthusiastic commentary but quickly runs out of historic data; however, he's an effusive viewing companion and is never boring. A quickie documentary tells the histories of the films and ends with visits with the computer geeks who restored the films. You can see just how awful the \"\"before\"\" footage was, which makes the \"\"after\"\" result that much more impressive. However, some of the restored footage is as unfocused and as grainy as kinescopes, particularly low-light close-ups in The Stranger. Apparently nothing could be done to enhance those scenes. Welles' penchant for close-ups can be seen in his first film ever, Hearts of Age, a silent backyard home movie Welles made with friends in 1934 that includes commentary by Lyons. Still galleries of aging production photos and the theatrical trailers are also included in the package. Welles collectors and fans of vintage cinema will enjoy the set immensely, but those who have never seen either film will be in for a pair of treats.\"","brand":"E1 ENTERTAINMENT DIST ***","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":47092961804528,"sku":"0683070935528","price":19.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0737\/7593\/9824\/files\/0683070935528_p0.jpg?v=1763831678","url":"https:\/\/shop-qa.barnesandnoble.com\/products\/0683070935528","provider":"Barnes \u0026 Noble (DEV)","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
