2940000063248
Have Blue
When a man loves an airplane, it's a matter of calculations. When a man loves a woman, everything is up in the air. Paul Owens, during the early 1970s, is that man, and he is about to face that dilemma, as a beautiful and intelligent young widow named Marsha Kassner, 32, moves in next-door with her son Peter, 9.

Paul Owens, a fictional character in this novel based on a true story, is the inventor of Stealth Technology. His ideas lead directly to the F117-A1 Stealth planes that have done much of the heavy lifting during at least two generations of U.S. air wars.

There are no perfect men and no perfect women—just perfect matches, that come maybe once in a lifetime for most people. Marsha has lost her perfect match, but she still carries herself with that impossible-to-get aura that bowls over a nerdy bachelor like Paul Owens.

A brilliant mathematician and aircraft engineer at Lockheed, Paul is also a handsome young man tending toward fast cars, long hair, and loud music--all anathema to his stiff-necked supervisors. While the usual mid-level managers conspire to eliminate him--in favor of someone as robotic and devoid of ideas as they are--Paul finds an obscure Soviet technical journal and has an inspiration that literally saves the world.

Have Blue, named after the project that gave birth to this technology that saved mankind from World War III, is a historical techno-thriller with a strong romantic story line, loosely based on the first days of that project. The hero, a young engineer with a fascination for aerodynamic nosecones, discovers a stunning mathematical secret in an obscure Soviet journal ... and saves the world.

Have Blue was the most top-secret U.S. military project since the atomic bomb project. In 1973, the fate of the world hung on what would eventually become known as the F117-A stealth fighter. This became clear during the so-called Yom Kippur War (October 1973) between Israel and her Arab neighbors. This brief, devastating war was a test run between U.S. and Soviet proxies. Both nations gave their proxies the most advanced weapons, but the Soviets did one better: they gave Egypt radar systems so advanced that the best U.S. aircraft, flown by Israeli pilots, had virtually no chance of penetrating enemy air space without being detected and shot down immediately. What this meant in the larger picture was that the balance of world power had shifted decisively to the Soviets. The MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) policy that had kept peace between the two superpowers was no longer in effect. The U.S. relied on a “three legged stool” of missiles, bombers, and ICBM submarines. With the new, advanced Soviet radars, the bomber leg of the stool was clearly defunct.

The U.S. sought desperately for a way to neutralize Soviet radars and restore the bomber option. Historically, anti-radar defenses dated as far back as the Nazis’ efforts to coat their bombers with radar-reflective material. Paul Owens figured out something far better, based not on coatings, but on the very shape of the plane. The end-product was a strange-looking aircraft that had not a single surface that would reflect the enemy’s probing radar beams back to their detectors. It rendered the aircraft virtually invisible. Radar had been overcome.

Now if only Paul Owens could overcome the forces conspiring to keep him from bringing his growing affection for Marsha Kassner to fruition. The radars of love give him a serious run for his money. This novel is the story of both a true techological miracle, and of a fictional romance trying to become Paul and Marsha’s great love story.
