2940012847898
The City That Works: Power, Politics, and Corruption in Chicago
The book is about the ongoing debate of politics and corruption in Chicago, with a comparison of politics and corruption in other cities, such as San Diego, Kansas City, and New York City. Actually attended the sentencing hearing of former San Diego Congressman "Duke" Cunningham, as well as attended a federal corruption trial of former Illinois Governor George Ryan's right hand man, "Fawell" in Chicago. It references and compares to another book, "The Pursuit of Absolute Integrity," by John Jacobs and Frank Anechiarico. Book is also about political workers and operatives, whom I worked with and around at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, that contributed to the election of former Governor Rod Blagojevich, then Congressman Rahm Emanual, and ultimately President Barack Obama. The book is further about the attempt on the part of Governor Blagojevich to sell President Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat.Chicago prides itself in being the "City That Works," but it is how it actually works, "Pay to Play," which is what this book is about, and what former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was indicted for. Felt life threatened over duties and responsibilities, after a bomb exploded in one manager's car, and bullet holes where seen in another manager's car, adjacent to where my car was parked in its reserved space. At one time written out of the City's budget, due to not going along with the "program." Had to resort to political maneuvering and gamesmanship to get restored to job, told to go to my "Chinaman," phrase used in Chicago political circles. Also, while current White House advisor Valerie Jarrett was an attorney at City Hall in Chicago, would have to take contracts to her Law Department to get signoff on. Pulitzer Prize Winning Editorial Cartoonist, Steve Breen, of the San Diego Union-Tribune Newspaper, has given me permission to use his editorial cartoon(s) with my book, particularly the one depicting three separate garbage bins indicating the level of corruption in New Jersey, Louisiana and Illinois. Steve Breen is also a member of my San Diego Writers/Editors Guild.Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich being recently convicted of correction, is symptomatic of what Steve Breen attempts to depict in his editorial cartoon, indicating just how corrupt the state of Illinois is in comparison to other states, along with former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel earlier being caught on federal wiretap, attempting to bargain with then Governor Blagojevich, over the vacated Senate seat of President Barack Obama. It makes one wonder, is Emanuel just as culpable as Blagojevich, and are there really any honest politicians in Chicago and/or the State of Illinois?

[Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was convicted on 17 of 20 counts of corruption on Monday, June 27, 2011]
