The pain in my ankle was intense and sudden. It didn’t so much knock me off as caused me to jump. I looked up. The tri cornered hat stood out along with a uniform. I saw the billy club reared back ready for another swing at me. The tri cornered hat hesitated.  Perhaps it was the sight of me fallen on the ground helpless. Perhaps the look of surprise on my face. Perhaps the crowd all around. My reprieve was granted. I crawled sideways into the crowd’s feet. Dragging myself away.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt was the black leather motorcycle boots that saved me. The sides were high - 8 inches. Instead of a broken ankle I had a large black and blue lump on my ankle. It took 15 minutes or so to stand and limp off. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe noise of the crowd was everywhere. I couldn’t see anything but a lot of backsides. The crowd moved en mass as the bulls ran down the fence corridor and into the ring.
