2940012985989
Gaddafi: The World According to Self-Proclaimed King of Kings
Gaddafi's Green Book was first published in 1975, and was required reading for all Libyans. Part of the inspiration for the book is believed to have come from Chairman Mao's Little Red Book. The Green Book is written in a simple style and has been widely distributed both in and outside of Libya. In more recent times and particularly during the civil war of 2011 the book has been widely burned by anti- Gaddafi demonstrators. The book remains an interesting historical document providing great insight into the mindset of Gaddafi, a man whose name is spelt over a hundred different ways. The Green Book also puts some perspective on this flamboyant and notorious leader's bizarre belief system.

Indeed, while The Green Book was adhered to for many years by Libyans who were forced to read the world according to Gaddafi, things have now changed. Yet, for over 42 years Gaddafi's words carried a lot of weight with his citizens. It is indeed interesting to note that in the Green book which outlines his philosophies and principles he says: "Government is the prime political problem confronting human communities." Many Libyans would agree that Gaddafi's self styled form of governance was the prime political problem in North Africa as he led Libya with an iron rod for over 4 decades.

Yet Gaddafi's life and words still make for interesting reading.

Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi, commonly known as Muammar Gaddafi was born in a Bedouin tent on June 7th 1942 and from 1969 until 2011 after seizing power in a military coup he ruled the Libya. He was the self - proclaimed "King of Kings."

After assuming office Gaddafi abolished the Libyan Constitution of 1951 and implemented his own rules many of which can be found in this Green Book. He called himself names such as 'Brother Leader', Guide to the Revolution' and 'King of Kings', and surprisingly people listened. His style of Governance was not only flamboyant with his female security detail but also ruthless.

In much the same way as other autocrats throughout history Gaddafi eliminated all opposition to him and ruled his people with little room for compromise. The United Nations actually described Libya under his rule as a pariah state, and his support for terrorist organizations led to sanctions against him. Gaddafi will also go down in infamy for his countries alleged role in the downing of Pan Am flight 103. Yet, despite his constant battle with the West, following the fall of Saddam Hussein Gaddafi seemed to want t regain ties with his former foes. Gaddafi denounced his weapons of mass destruction programs and diplomatic relations between the US and Libya restored.

Now Gaddafi is history but his words live on in his Green Book which provides insight in to the mind of a mad man.
