Months later he was promoted to Brigadier General and commanded a brigade in General James Longstreet’s Corps. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs a Brigadier General, Wilcox had to write official accounts of his campaigns, and they were preserved in The War of the Rebellion: Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies. On May 10, 1863, Wilcox wrote an official report on the Battle of Chancellorsville just days after the battle, the very day Stonewall Jackson died of wounds sustained during the fighting after his famous flank march routed the Union’s right.
