Seven human forms are seen within it,--\u003cbr\u003esix of them living, and one dead.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOf the living, four are full-grown men; three of them white, the fourth\u003cbr\u003eof an umber-brown, or _bistre_ colour.  One of the white men is tall,\u003cbr\u003edark and bearded, with features bespeaking him either a European or an\u003cbr\u003eAmerican, though their somewhat elongated shape and classic regularity\u003cbr\u003ewould lead to a belief that he is the latter, and in all probability a\u003cbr\u003enative of New York.  And so he is.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe features of the white man sitting nearest to him are in strange\u003cbr\u003econtrast to his, as is also the colour of his hair and skin.  The hair\u003cbr\u003eis of a carroty shade, while his complexion, originally reddish, through\u003cbr\u003elong exposure to a tropical sun exhibits a yellowish, freckled\u003cbr\u003eappearance.  The countenance so marked is unmistakably of Milesian type.\u003cbr\u003eSo it should be, as its owner is an Irishman.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe third white man, of thin, lank frame, with face almost beardless,\u003cbr\u003epale cadaverous cheeks, and eyes sunken in their sockets, and there\u003cbr\u003erolling wildly, is one of those nondescripts who may be English, Irish,\u003cbr\u003eScotch, or American.  His dress betokens him to be a seaman, a common\u003cbr\u003esailor.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe of the brown complexion, with flat spreading nose, high cheek-bones,\u003cbr\u003eoblique eyes, and straight, raven black hair, is evidently a native of\u003cbr\u003ethe East, a Malay.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe two other living figures in the boat are those of a boy and girl.\u003cbr\u003eThey are white.  They differ but little in size, and but a year or two\u003cbr\u003ein age, the girl being fourteen and the boy about sixteen.  There is\u003cbr\u003ealso a resemblance in their features.
