For twenty years he was a teacher in\u003cbr\u003ethe Public Schools of Boston, where he came in close contact with boy\u003cbr\u003elife. These twenty years taught him how to reach the boy's heart and\u003cbr\u003einterest as the popularity of his books attest.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHis story writing began in 1850 when he was twenty-eight years old and\u003cbr\u003ehis first book was published in 1853. He also edited \"The Oliver Optic\u003cbr\u003eMagazine,\" \"The Student and Schoolmate,\" \"Our Little Ones.\"\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMr. Adams died at the age of seventy-five years, in Boston, March 27,\u003cbr\u003e1897.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe was a prolific writer and his stories are most attractive and\u003cbr\u003eunobjectionable. Most of his books were published in series.
