Would you believe that it is indeed\u003cbr\u003erooted somewhere else?!\u003cbr\u003eLet's go back though, to the time before Jesus Christ's birth, and see if\u003cbr\u003ewe can't make sense of this. . . .\u003cbr\u003eCenturies before Christ was born there was a group of people who\u003cbr\u003ecelebrated something they called \"The Winter Solstice\". In this\u003cbr\u003ecelebration, early Europeans would gather together and rejoice that the\u003cbr\u003eworst part of the Winter Season was passing and that they had managed\u003cbr\u003eto survive another harsh, cold Winter. And also, that they could begin\u003cbr\u003eenjoying longer days. In other words, this was a celebration of light\u003cbr\u003eitself. And life as well.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis celebration of light and survival would take place around\u003cbr\u003eDecember 21st or the 22nd every year. And, depending on the calender\u003cbr\u003eshift, it could occur anywhere between December 20th to the 23rd.\u003cbr\u003ePretty close to the time when we traditionally celebrate our Christmas\u003cbr\u003eholiday, wouldn't you agree?\u003cbr\u003eIndeed, all across the European countryside, the end of December was\u003cbr\u003ean ideal time to have a celebration due in most part because cattle were\u003cbr\u003eslaughtered so that they would not have to be fed throughout Winter.\u003cbr\u003eAnd for lots of people, this would be one of the only times throughout\u003cbr\u003ethe entire year that they would have access to fresh meat.\u003cbr\u003eNot only this, but most beverages consumed, such as beer and wine,\u003cbr\u003ecultivated throughout the year had finished the fermentation cycle and\u003cbr\u003ewere ready to be consumed.
