2940014676540
Living with The United States Budget: An Everyman's Perspective
"Living With The United State's Budget: An Everyman's Perspective" is a book that discusses the United State's Budget and the politics involved. The book also makes concerted effort to make budget cuts based on the information from the budget and an everyday American's belief of what will actually work. The title states an Everyman's Perspecitve because not only does it give a nod to Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Sale’s Man” but because the main character’s last name is Lowman. Lowman separated is Low Man. The military and government workers are the low men on the totem pole of government pay scale while Congress people and Senators are not. It is rather ironic that the majority of Congress people and Senators are millionaires and willing to continue to receive payment while creating a pay stoppage during a man made budget crisis.
The first part of the book is Living with the United States Budget. I came up with that because I literally lived with the Budget. I took it everywhere I went. When I went to bed it was by my bed. When I went to work or to school it was with me. When I went to the bathroom, it was right outside my door. Yes, the Budget was even with me when I went to the doctors, car wash, get gas, and to friend’s houses. The book weighed at least 5.5 pounds and the print is smaller than the Bible. There are 1324 readable pages that I personally read. The book did not cost a lot but I paid just over $100 for a rush delivery because I was quite excited to begin my journey with the Budget.
I believe the book is an important piece of literature because it gives voice to what is going on in the news. Sure the numbers will change as the United States Budget changes, but what does not change is the dialogue that needs to continue to happen every day throughout the year.
Though I might not be an economist, nor am I someone with a strong political science background, I firmly believe that any American is able to see that there is something wrong with the government's spending habits. There are divisions between the political system, the business sector, and the American people at large. Americans are the consumers, business create the products that create that consumer need, businesses also create real jobs for Americans, and the government helps to protect businesses from unfair labor practices. All of these entities together create a stable economy. Economic growth does not necessarily start from the top down, perhaps the perspective needs to be seen from the bottom up. Getting Americans back to work through other means than what has been proposed through lending and shipping overseas. I am unsure what those means are but in time I am sure those ideas can be created. I do not buy into the idea that there is an intellectual drain in our country but what I do believe is that there are fear tactics that hinder American thinking and ingenuity. The American dream needs to be revived. Positivism needs to be alive. The fear factor needs to be taken out of our lexicon because the fear that came with 9/11 needs to become history. Yes, 9/11 was a horrific event, but no longer must we live in the shadows of the terror and be fearful and allow the terrorism continue to haunt our greatness.
