It's better for your circulation and for\u003cbr\u003ethe planet. Try and take less time in the shower also. Not only can you\u003cbr\u003esave money from your bill, but by trimming off 2-3 minutes of your\u003cbr\u003eshower each day, you can save 150 gallons of water per month!\u003cbr\u003eConsider getting a low flow shower head.\u003cbr\u003e• Banish plastic bottles of water and invest in a water filter to purify tap\u003cbr\u003ewater.\u003cbr\u003e• Don’t overheat your home. Install a thermostat to maintain a\u003cbr\u003etemperature of 16°C in bedrooms and 19°C in other rooms. Lowering\u003cbr\u003ethe temperature of your home by just 1°C could save you 7% on your\u003cbr\u003eelectricity bill. Put more clothes on before turning you heat up!\u003cbr\u003e• Put radiator panels behind your radiator to reflect the heat back into the\u003cbr\u003eroom. You could save 5-10% off your fuel bills this way.\u003cbr\u003e• Try using ceiling fans instead of air conditioning. To keep cool, use a\u003cbr\u003edehumidifier, close drapes during the day and open windows at night.\u003cbr\u003e• Replace ordinary light bulbs with high-efficiency ones. They may be\u003cbr\u003emore expensive but last 12 times longer and use 5 times less\u003cbr\u003eelectricity.\u003cbr\u003e• Turn off your TV, Hi-fi, PC and DVD player - they still use electricity\u003cbr\u003ewhen not in use. Even while on standby, they consume 10% more\u003cbr\u003eelectricity.\u003cbr\u003e• Switch the lights off when you leave the room!\u003cbr\u003e• Defrost your freezer. A coat of 4 millimetres of ice can double its\u003cbr\u003econsumption of electricity.\u003cbr\u003e• When washing your clothes, switch to phosphate-free washing powder\u003cbr\u003eand never run a machine half empty. Try to reduce the temperature of\u003cbr\u003ethe wash also where you can and choice a shorter cycle.\u003cbr\u003e• Wash dishes by hand (it uses significantly less water than a\u003cbr\u003edishwasher) and dispose of water outside to water the garden. If you\u003cbr\u003edo use a dishwasher, only switch on when it is completely full and use\u003cbr\u003ea shorter cycle.\u003cbr\u003e• Fix a small device to your loo that reduces the amount used for each\u003cbr\u003eflush. Each time your toilet is flushed, it uses 5-7 gallons of water.\u003cbr\u003eToilets use one third of the water used in most homes.\u003cbr\u003e• Wash your car less often.\u003cbr\u003e• Fix all the leaks around your home.\u003cbr\u003e• Think before you throw anything away. If you can, re-use anything you\u003cbr\u003ecan. If you cannot re-use, then recycle or compost. Have a good spring clean of your wardrobe and drawers. Be as\u003cbr\u003eruthless as you can and donate those clothes that you have not worn in\u003cbr\u003eyears – someone else could get many years out of your unwanted\u003cbr\u003eitems. Alternatively, a good way of making some money from items\u003cbr\u003ethat you no longer want is by doing a car boot or garage sale, or even\u003cbr\u003esell your items on an online marketplace site. You can even buy items\u003cbr\u003ethat others no longer want or need, often more cheaply and which is\u003cbr\u003eless of a cost to the environment.\u003cbr\u003e• Recycle electricals. If they are still in working order, consider donating\u003cbr\u003eto a local charity if they are happy to accept them. If not, dispose of\u003cbr\u003eresponsibly.
