2940016076645
Pine Village Co-op Murders
Long Island County Detective Miguel (Sherlockito) Sanchez and his partner Steven Boyd, tracks down a homicidal maniac terrorizing the occupants of the Pine Village Co-op, where Mike just happens to abode with wife Tracy, two children and hound dog Bruce.
If the "Guinness Record Book" had a listing for worst co-ops, the deeply in debt Pine Village would top the category with ease. Every entranceway had wood rot of some sort and in desperate need of a paint job -- grass -- forget it. Some at the main entrance, and of course between the cracks in the concrete walks, but as you continued in, a moon like surface took place. No green could be seen.
As Mike once said: "Grass in the co-op is like hair on a bald man's ass -- it grows where you least want it to."
As far as pines are concerned, there would be a better chance of finding one in Antarctica. Then there were: roof leaks, leaf laden gutters and drains, axel breaking pot holes, inadequate electrical and heating systems, etc, etc.
In this happy place, the first murder is committed. Against his will, Mike is ordered by Chief Martin Boyd (partner Steven's uncle) to conduct the investigation.
After many an elimination, the two come to the conclusion a co-op board member must have done the dirty deeds, but this is not a certainty, there are other suspects to be concidered. There are the Kerlander's, who although in the hoosegow, are suspected of hiring a hit man from a foreign land to take care of one of the victims. Then there is a possible link of the co-op murders and other unsolved murders in an adjoining county. There are also some surprise suspects, but any hint of who they are would spoil our little tale. So guess along with Detective Mike and see if you can solve this complex whodunit.
Throughout the story many interesting characters emerge, there's: Tracy, Mike's wife who sometimes becomes a little too involved in his police functions; the five board members, all concidered suspects. These five board members are discribed in detail. First, there is the president of the Pine Village board, the pedant, Doctor Isadore Blank, who happens to be a marathon speaker, madly in love with his own voice; smug to an annoying degree. Next, there is Vice President Clare McDonald, an obese member of the NYC Board of Education's "Rubber Room." Placed there for disciplinary problems. Following, we have the elderly Anthony Pascarella, another egotist, but his egotism is aimed in the direction of fancy cars, jewelry, and women, to name a few. Then there is Doris Swartzburger, large breasted, in her fifties, married, and hot for one of the male board members. It could be the last member of the board, Elliott Gomez, the handsome, young Ecuadorian immigrant.
Other characters include: Armad Haziz, the suspected assasin hired by the shady Kerlanders; the equally shady Signh's, father and son bankers; prison stoolie, Marvin Trebaz; Zorita, the pain in the ass renter who threatened to put a damper on a large contract involving the co-op; the unpredictable Inspector Boyd and his nephew Steven Boyd, Mike's partner, for starters.
Then there are the overabundance of wackos that live in the little village, labled: "Creedmore East" (a mental facility in a nearby county) by Mike and Tracy. According to them the percentage of loonys was very lopsided compared to the rest of the surrounding populance. Some occupants include: Colonel Bob, a five star nut job who would endlessly walk the grounds in a General MacArthur scrambled egg hat, wearing an old Ike Jacket, constantly trying to recruit various ladies -- Tracy included -- to star in his production of Ayn Rand's "Fountainhead; the elderly Ronald Weingarten -- caught several times peeing in the bushes, instead of his perfectly fucnctioning toilet; the Rivera brothers, who had not worked in twenty years, were on disability, but managed to run at least four marathons a year; Lizzy the flower thief, who went around digging up other peoples flowers for her back yard, just to name a few.
All together, five grizzley murders are committed in our story, but not necessarily by the same person or persons.
Many twists emerge as the tale progresses, with a trapped Tracy eventually finding herself employing a "Scheherazade" like stalling act with the killer, only with the murderer in this version telling the tales. And; finally this tale culminates in a thrilling climax, where our hero Sherlockito finds himself in a life or death struggle with a cunning and unpredictable foe.
