2940016168487
Baduanjin (Eight Pieces of Brocade) Qi Kung: Part 2 of 2
This text is a full instructional on the famous Baduanjin Qi Kung. While this Qi Kung set has well-known martial and health benefits from its training exercises, there are few that know the full method of Baduanjin training. Out of the variety of people I have seen teaching Baduanjin, I have seen almost all do abbreviated versions which do not have all of the movements. Others do not do the full movements, do not go deep enough into stances, nor turn far enough. Others still do not understand the correct breathing for the motions. This text does not beat around the proverbial bush. It will not delve into a hundred pages of history, but will begin with only a basic introduction and proceed to get right into the core of the text: training in Baduanjin. There is a photograph of every move and every intermediary move that I can think of.

Some people will find this insufficient. They will want a lot of background, so they can collect data the way that they collect books that they do not apply. For the do-er, this book is a gold mine. Yes, I could pompously write assumed histories of the Qi Kung set, and tell you authoritatively that “this is it.” But the reality is that any teacher, including myself, is largely passing on what they were told by their teacher, and what they were told by theirs.

Other readers are complete beginners and will find terminology used throughout this book to be complex, and literally foreign. That is because this book is not an introduction to Qi Kung. It is not that type of book. This is a book that is purported to supplement real-world training, or to assist the advanced practitioner in learning the set. It makes use of terms pregnant with esoteric meanings, implications and pictographical, glyphic connotations that are impossible to effectively translate or summarize in English. As a result, the original Chinese terms that are common to Nei Jia training will be used her throughout without detailed elaboration. If this is difficult for the reader at any point, they are advised to look up these terms on the internet and find a brief summary. To that end, this can be an effective educational tool for the self-motivated learner, but it will not spoon feed you basic definitions that should be known by a student at the level of attempting to learn so complicated a Qi Kung set from a text (even with the copious amounts of pictures contained in this work).

The Baduanjin Qi Kung set will be described in detail through words and pictures, in two parts. The reader may chose to refine the first half before purchasing the second, or to simply purchase them both at the same time, and work on all eight of the full Qi Kung set, little by little.
