Later she secures a divorce and gives her love to a man who aspires greatly but who has no power to achieve. Disappointed and despising herself for this surrender, she returns to her father, who marries her to a prosperous peasant. With him she lives a listless life until past forty, when a young love reawakens in her for one of her servants. She eventually marries him, living happily as a lower class ferryman's wife until her death at the age of seventy. An introduction by the translator, Hanna A.
