A lot is at stake, especially prestige. Some even resort to dirty tricks. The festival takes place on a holiday commonly called the Second New Year. Originally, the day was a holiday for slaves. Now, it is a holiday for everyone.\u003cbr\u003eThe second story is a bitter-sweet account of the modern scourge of Aids. A benevolent employer teaches her gardener, a Northern Sotho man called Pule, how to drive a car. He eventually leaves his employer to find a better-paid job. Pule graduates from driving cars to heavy-duty vehicles which is where the big money is to be made. However, long-distance drivers are known to pick up “wives” who keep them company on their long trips. This is one of the causes of the spread of the disease. However, Pule is unaware of the danger and succumbs to Aids.
