Yusuf and Francis Wetherby had never met, until one day when Francis had to be at the site very early in the morning.

During this early morning drive to the site Francis saw, in the distance, and through the shimmering heat, a runner, closely followed by a small camel which appeared to be nudging the runner in the back in order to make him run faster. As a former athlete and now a British Representative of the New Olympics Committee, Francis immediately became interested. The runner was moving very fast even under the very hot conditions. Always on the lookout for athletes to compete in the New Olympics which were soon to take place in Athens, Francis decided to find out who the runner was, perhaps he could be persuaded to run for Egypt. He decided to take some timings.

Francis discovered that the runner actually worked for him and the timings he secretly took showed the young man was an extraordinary athlete, who ran at top flight speed and was equal to the best Marathon runners in the world.
