She was the first to be fired when a smart, cheap software application took over her job as, the inventory staff. Her husband worked in a private company that could not compete with the newly opened Walmart super store that carried everything at half the price.

Suddenly, there is no hope, way, money, job, home with unpaid bills, debts, foreclosure looming and overshadowing them. They made an appointment to see their pastor hoping there will be solution through that avenue. When they finally found themselves in their pastor’s office the couple narrated their woes as they cried. At the end of their story, their pastor asked one question: “Have you guys being paying your tithes?” they said “yes, we have never missed paying our except for this month.” The pastor replied, “That is the cause of your problem. You should never miss paying tithes.” They tried to explain that, the unemployment is the result of missing that month’s tithe.
But the pastor insisted, “You should have scrapped everything you have and paid your tithe. God is angry with both of you. Pay your tithes first even if you have no job.” Lori and her husband tried to explain but their pastor would not bulge. He sent them away to find some means to pay their tithes. With disbelief and sadness they left the pastor’s office. The couple began a discussion of what can be sold to pay their tithe and settled for the only thing left: their family car. Lori said, “Maybe if we sell off this car and pay tithes from it, we will get jobs.” The reasoning made no sense to her husband but he agreed. That was not difficult because the price tag was far less than the value of the car. By the following week, they were able to pay their tithes from the proceeds. Having no car began to take its toll on every aspect of their lives because they could not drive the children to school, stores and even physically network for a job. Within two days, they were before their pastor. The visit was no different from the first one. Except this time they were reminded not to miss payment lest they incur the wrath of God. For three months they managed to pay their tithes then every angle dried up. Discouragement, hopelessness and anxiety forecasted each day as they feared living on the street. It was at this point that they decided to fast and seek the face of God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Calling upon the Holy Spirit to direct them, they prayed that the windows in heaven should open for them. They decided that their options were limited. Their predicament has developed a pattern of, ‘pay your tithe even if you are not working.” On the other hand, if everything in the heavens and the earth belong to God, then they had better focus their petition to Him. As a result, they prayed this prayer over and over – just this one point based on the Second Book of the Kings 6:24-7:20.
