And which came to him in the days of Joakim the son of Josias king\u003cbr\u003eof Juda, unto the end of the eleventh year of Sedecias the son of Josias\u003cbr\u003eking of Juda, even unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the\u003cbr\u003efifth month.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:4. Before I formed thee in the bowels of thy mother, I knew thee: and\u003cbr\u003ebefore thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and made\u003cbr\u003ethee a prophet unto the nations.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:6. And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am\u003cbr\u003ea child.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:7. And the Lord said to me: Say not: I am a child: for thou shalt go\u003cbr\u003eto all that I shall send thee: and whatsoever I shall command thee, thou\u003cbr\u003eshalt speak.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:8. Be not afraid at their presence: for I am with thee to deliver\u003cbr\u003ethee, saith the Lord.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:9. And the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth: and the Lord\u003cbr\u003esaid to me: Behold I have given my words in thy mouth:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:10. Lo, I have set thee this day over the nations, and over kingdoms,\u003cbr\u003eto root up, and to pull down, and to waste, and to destroy, and to\u003cbr\u003ebuild, and to plant.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:11. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: What seest thou,\u003cbr\u003eJeremias? And I said: I see a rod watching.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:12. And the Lord said to me: Thou hast seen well: for I will watch\u003cbr\u003eover my word to perform it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:13. And the word of the Lord came to me a second time saying: What\u003cbr\u003eseest thou? And I said: I see a boiling caldron, and the face thereof\u003cbr\u003efrom the face of the north.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:14. And the Lord said to me: From the north shall an evil break forth\u003cbr\u003eupon all the inhabitants of the land.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:15. For behold I will call together all the families of the kingdoms\u003cbr\u003eof the north, saith the Lord: and they shall come, and shall set every\u003cbr\u003eone his throne in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all\u003cbr\u003ethe walls thereof round about, and upon all the cities of Juda.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:16. And I will pronounce my judgments against them, touching all their\u003cbr\u003ewickedness, who have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods,\u003cbr\u003eand have adored the work of their own hands.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e1:17. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak to them all\u003cbr\u003ethat I command thee.
