WILLIAM DUNLOP,\u003cbr\u003ea man of surpassing talent, knowledge,\u003cbr\u003eand benevolence, born in Scotland\u003cbr\u003ein 1792.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe served in the army in Canada and in India\u003cbr\u003eand thereafter distinguished himself\u003cbr\u003eas an author and man of\u003cbr\u003eletters.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe settled in Canada permanently in 1825 and\u003cbr\u003efor more than 20 years was actively\u003cbr\u003eengaged in public and philanthropic\u003cbr\u003eaffairs.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSucceeding his brother, Capt.
