The intent of this Section is to enable the U.S. \u003cbr\u003eDepartment of Transportation to partner withthe motor carrier and wireless technology \u003cbr\u003eindustries to cooperatively identify and test promising applications and devices in a real-world \u003cbr\u003eenvironment, and to promote the adoption and use of successful solutions by an array of motor \u003cbr\u003ecarriers. \u003cbr\u003eThe specific objectives of the Study are to: \u003cbr\u003e•  Identify inefficiencies in freight transportation. \u003cbr\u003e•  Evaluate safety and productivity improvements made possible through wireless \u003cbr\u003etechnologies. \u003cbr\u003e•  Demonstrate wireless technologies in field tests. \u003cbr\u003eThe Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) was assigned responsibility for \u003cbr\u003eadministering this program via the Motor Carrier Efficiency Study (MCES). The program will be \u003cbr\u003ecompleted in two Phases. Phase I has been completed and addressed the first two objectives \u003cbr\u003elisted above. The actual field tests will be conducted under Phase II of the program. \u003cbr\u003eThe results of Phase I are summarized in this MCES Final Report. This Report constitutes one of \u003cbr\u003eseven reports developed under Phase I of the MCES.
