2940149344833
Greg's "Frequent Flyer" Library General Fiction Volume 1
There are seven general fiction short stories in this book, and each of them is designed to provide a good, short read in the genre. The aim of this book is to entertain those of you who enjoy reading about people in common and not-so-common situations and maintain a literary quality of writing and presentation. There are also seven interior covers, each designed, created and produced, with artistry, by Greg himself. As an artist, he would have it no other way.

The first story, TRACTOR LOVE, involves two farmers, two tractors and something new, something the two farmers did not expect, a spark of love. Is this true love, or someone's imagination? Imagine finding the past and the present oddly projected into the future. Sometimes it is better not to ask too much when just a little is enough. Perhaps it is all a dream, but then again, perhaps it isn't. Find out. This is a sweet and tender story, as tender as a love affair can be when two tractors are involved.

The second story, 2 CHEFFIES AND A STEAK, views a moment in time when twin brothers view themselves and each other. They have lived together forever, but have they? What significance can a steak have when two brothers are at stake?

The third story, 2 TIMMONS, involves a gentle person who does not agree with the adage that one must always be first, and second and third place are of no significance. Timmons strives for last place and considers it a remarkable position. She takes great pride ensuring that someone who has to be first to feel whole achieves that goal. It means that Timmons has to lose convincingly, which is not easy. This is a story of relativity, purpose, and thoughtfulness; but it takes a gentle person with great strength to be second and know last place can be, in reality, at least first place.

The fourth story, DEAD END, looks at an average man in an average job, with an average life in an average locale. Who is he and where is he going? Is 'nowhere' a destination or an address?

The fifth story, JOHNNY AND THE REAL CHURCH, is about belief and standardization of that belief. Do we assume the characteristics of a religion because we believe in them, because they are comforting or because we are told to act and react in a certain way, and we comply? What is a religion; and what is needed in the way of physical items to practice that religion? What is real and what is imposed? How much space do you need to talk to your God? The answer may surprise you.

The sixth story, SQUARE DANCING, is about two very old people, one of whom is ill and the other knows it. They have been married for years and it has been a good marriage, one in which either would do anything for the other. They are people who remember their younger days, when they first met, at a square dance, where he was playing the drums in the band. Life changes, and not always as we would plan or want. Beginnings are often poignant and sweet; endings are often quiet and sad.

The seventh story, WARRIORS BENEATH THE SEA, walks with a German submariner as he returns to his hometown after World War I is over. Rubble and strange faces are all he sees as his guilt at being on the vanquished side marches along with his deeper guilt caused by actions he and his fellow submariners took when confronted with the impossible. He needs to find his family and cannot even find himself. Walk with him and learn the never-ending horrors of war; learn of those horrors that remain with the fighters long after the combat is but a memory, and what are memories made of? Perhaps memories are real, or are they simply relived? Then again, how far ahead are memories formed? Sometimes, it is hard to tell.
