2940150209732
Blood Moon
This modern day werewolf story is set in the quiet countryside of the Norfolk broads, the surrounding villages of Reedham, Halvergate, Freethorpe and the seaside resort of Great Yarmouth.
Detective Inspector Mike Hancox and his sergeant, Jim Darby, of the Great Yarmouth division are called-in to investigate the horrific killing of a schoolteacher.
Hancox, a police officer for 30 years, for the last 9 years, has felt sorrow for losing his children in a car accident caused by a white dog crossing the road in front of his son’s car.
Jim Darby has been in the police force for 10 years and is married to Hancox’s foster daughter, Donna.
With what they find at the scene of the crime and the information they get from the coroner, Steve Williams, they are on the lookout for an escaped animal, from a zoo or a wildlife park – possibly a wolf – since the witnesses recalled hearing a wolf howling, just before finding the body.
During the autopsy, Williams finds a claw from an animal stuck in the body and contacts an old friend, John Granger, for some help.
Granger is not only an animal expert from the local zoo, but also a werewolf on a mission to find the beta-wolf that cursed his family into hybrids, hoping to kill him and lift a 500-year-old curse.
After an attack at an animal park, where the beast kills some of the animals, a security guard, and frightens another guard, Granger tells Hancox his secret.
Hancox isn’t sure whether to believe him, although it does confirm what he thinks is behind the killing.
During the weekend, ten-year-old, Joanne Saunders, fails to return home from playing with her friends. Her parents call in the police and a full-scale search commences, but during the search a vagrant, who passes through the village a couple of times a year, doing odd jobs for the older members of the village, settles down in an abandoned windmill, and is attacked by the beast and left hanging from a beam, covered in blood.
While the search continues for the little girl, Sergeant Darby leaves two police officers to search an area that hasn’t been looked at and goes off to search another on his own. Darby enters a large drainpipe-like tunnel, but instead of finding the little girl, he finds a hidden entrance to a basement, which contains an incinerator, wooden barrels full of human bones and a giant refrigerator with human bodies hanging from metal hooks. After finding out where he is and who owns the house, Darby makes his way back to the car, where he comes across the beast, which then kills him.
Granger shows Hancox a journal about werewolves and tells him about the werewolf who cursed his family and, during the conversation, Hancox finds out that Granger was the cause of the accident in which his children were killed. This now leaves Hancox with a decision to make – does he get revenge for his children after 9 years or does he continue his fight, with Granger’s help, to find the creature before it strikes again?
Hancox chooses to continue the fight.
Graham Adams is the fiancé of Christine Walker, the schoolteacher who was killed. Graham decides to take the law into his own hands and enlists the help of his friend, James Wilson, who, with his wife, Mary, found Christine’s body. The two men stake out a field in order to kill the beast, but the beast has other ideas, leaving the two men dead.

When the police find the bodies, Granger follows a trail from the field to the tunnel where Hancox found the body of Jim Darby, and finds the entrance of the man’s home, which he and his ancestors have spent the last 500 years, trying to locate.
Confronted with the truth, Jean Luc Grenier, a man who is presumed dead for 500 years, and who has spent the last couple of years under the name of Stuart Gardener, turns into the beast and is surprised when Granger also becomes a Creature. A deadly battle ensues, leaving Granger killing Grenier.
Hancox, finding out that Granger has lost his power to transform, decides to take his revenge, but cannot find the rage within him to pull the trigger. The story concludes with Hancox forgiving Granger and beginning a new life with his wife and foster daughter, Donna.
Robert H.
