2940150617704
The Seven Deadly Sins Still Deadly
About the Seven Deadly Sins Book
"The Seven Deadly Sins" can be traced back to the 4th century A.D. when a monk named Evagrius Ponticus generated a list of sins that he recognized as destructive to his people. Modern medical and psychological studies of the twenty-first century fully support his conclusions. However, since the word “sin” is a religious word, reminding us of our relationship with God, we are inclined to avoid the subject. The subject is so unpopular that many modern Gospel Ministers prefer to leave the subject to the un-educated, small-church, country preacher.
Long before God gave the Ten Commandments, the natural consequences of people’s misbehavior were destroying their lives, and they were harming others. This book examines the Biblical concepts of sin in both the Old and New Testaments. While the “wages of sin is death,” some sin is more deadly than others. This book examines each of the “Seven Deadly Sins,” not only from a theological perspective, but also in light of modern psychological and medical knowledge to see why some sins still are well named among the more “deadly” ones.
Lest someone is tempted to fall back on the common cliché that says sin is sin, and none is worse than another, I point to a more than obvious, even silly, illustration. Surely no one would suggest that telling a woman that her ugly dress is beautiful is as bad as pulling out a gun and shooting her.
We will examine truly deadly sins.
