Age above 55 yrs\u003cbr\u003e2. Very short sighted (myopia usually above 5-6 diopters).\u003cbr\u003e3. History of serious eye injury (injury to orbits)\u003cbr\u003e4. History of eye cataract surgery\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSymptoms are:\u003cbr\u003e1. Transient flashes of light\u003cbr\u003e2. A sudden increase of floaters in one eye\u003cbr\u003e3. A ring of floaters at the temporal region of the central vision\u003cbr\u003e4. A feeling of heaviness in the eye\u003cbr\u003e5. Presence of cloud in front of the eye so that parts of an object are not seen\u003cbr\u003eIndirect opthalmoscopy may show the grey folds of the detachment.\u003cbr\u003eTreatment is aimed at finding the holes or tears and closing them.\u003cbr\u003e1. Vitrectomy involves the removal of the vitreous gel followed by filling the eye with a gas bubble (SF6 or C3F8 gas).\u003cbr\u003e2. Cryotherapy and Laser Photocoagulation are used to create a adhesion around the retinal hole so that fluid cannot enter the hole\u003cbr\u003e3. Adatomed Silicone Oil is injected into the eye and mechanically holds the retina in place\u003cbr\u003e4.
