When part of the medical community sues the company and demands that the government shut them down, Lynn Sue immerses herself in her lover’s comfort and distracting pleasure. But as a commando aims his rifle at her, is it the end?

A peek inside:

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees one of the puppies run past and slam into Lynn Sue and knock her down in a twisting motion at the same time as he hears a ‘zing’ of a bullet passing from a ‘crack’ fired gun.

“LYNN SUE!!!” Henry involuntarily winces as his knees slam into the ground next to her. “Lynn Sue!!!” Quickly checking her, he can find no obvious wounds.

“I think I’m okay.” Lynn Sue starts to push herself up. “What happened?”

He quickly pushes her back down, “Stay down. One of puppies knocked you over because somebody shot at you.”

“What?!?”

“Shhh. Stay down and be quiet.” Staying bent over her and trying to keep his movements as unnoticeable as possible, he makes sure there’s a bullet in the chamber of his handgun, it’s cocked, and loose in his holster then suggests, “Make sure yours is ready also.”

She does so, though holds it in her right hand in front of her body, unseen below his body.

Appearing to frantically check her over, Henry lifts his head and screams, “NO!!! . . . Lynn Sue!!! . . . You bastards!!! . . . You cowards!!! . . . You emasculated wimps!!! Shooting an unarmed woman from hiding . . . .” As he carries on, she can hardly believe the variety of his statements or the anguish and vindictiveness of his voice. If she was the shooter, she would be inclined to silence him and she’s not a man to have her masculinity so vilified. Suddenly realizing the danger he’s in, she’s about to tell him to be quiet when she hears his quiet voice, “I see two guys starting to come across the back yard.” He yells a couple of more times then takes a breath.

She tells him, “One is coming up behind you across the driveway.”

He yells another derogatory statement, then whispers, “I’ll go for the two in front then try to turn for the one behind. I love you, lady.”

Before she can respond, he moves and she hears his handgun go off four times in rapid succession, then he starts to turn, but she sees the one in front of her quickly recover from his surprise, lift his rifle, she yells, “NO!!!!” and the man fires. Henry grunts and collapses on top of her. “HENRY!!!” Frantically, Lynn Sue tries to move, “HENRY!!!!!” but his limp body on her which traps her left arm between their bodies, is too much for her. Her flood of anger overwhelms her grief and she drops her handgun, grabs her phone and dials emergency services, punching in some codes she remembers seeing at the command center Alice gave her a tour of years ago along with her global position. Punching her speed dial, she quickly says, “Aunt Margaret, it’s Lynn Sue, tell Uncle John somebody’s shooting at us. Henry’s hurt.”

“That won’t do you any good.”

Quickly hitting the record button, Lynn Sue drops the phone to look up at the man who shot Henry standing several feet away and appears to be relaxed at not seeing any visible threat.

The man says, “You must be rather lucky. Only a couple of times have I ever missed my first shot, but never my second.”

“Why did you shoot him?”

“He shot two of my team mates.”

“You shot first. He was trying to defend me.”

The man shrugs his shoulders and says, “The boss wanted you taken care of, so, you get taken care of.”

“What boss?”

“I don’t know and I really don’t care. He told the chief, the chief told us, we do the job, and we get paid. It’s nothing personal.” He starts to lift his rifle then lowers it. “You know, it’s a shame. With someone as pretty as you, we could have had a good time, but, a job is a job. Like I say, it’s nothing personal.” He starts to raise his rifle.
