2940158065705
Boro & Gwin Episode 1
"I like this story," author Greg Taylor said to the author of this description, "because it is sectioned into individual episodes and presented in my unique block-like style I call 'pillars of profundity.' I first used this style to present over 111,000 words comprising one of my favorite books, 'Sinjon's Eye, a Pillar of Profundity.' 111,000 words is a good sized book, but I discovered Flash Fiction, a style where the number of words does not exceed approximately 1,500 words. This series 'The Saga of Boro & Gwin,' lent itself to 'shortness,' which appealed to me, since the series has episodes that settle at around 600 words each."
Aside from Greg's personal appreciation of his own work, this description reflects his innovative approach to all work involving, in his case, over 20 genres. "The Saga of Boro & Gwin, is unique in that the twists and turns; convolution of characters; fantasy of situations; and down-to-earth philosophies, create a quality of openness. I like to think that this work is a blend of poetry and prose, which produces a puzzling pattern of expression," that Greg says is, "a challenge to the reader, since each reader will, most likely, come to a different conclusion, and that, in itself, is exciting."
The saga involves two interchangeable characters, one Boro, and the other Gwin, dashing about in a metaphysical environment that, like Shakespearean plays, has a narrator, who in this saga becomes an integral part, and, in many ways, guides the plot, not just narrates it. The gender of both Boro and Gwin is also interchangeable, between the two, and within the two. Greg says that there are more episodes to come that do not continue the first eight, but travel both ways in time to "pinch" these eight in the middle, which Greg says, "is just too much fun."
He was asked why he writes a fraction of his material in pillars, which are punctuated, never-ending blocks of sentences; his response was, "Why not?" He believes strongly that written material read aloud provides a dynamic far beyond reading alone. "Reading a pillar aloud provides for the joy of reading to the eye, combined with the joy of feeding the ear. Therefore, I suggest that the reader read aloud to him or herself and see what happens. Just for your information, I read them aloud while I'm writing and realize that I am no longer the author, but the individual absorbing the lyricism and rhythm of the piece, which makes it a hell of a lot more fun than just writing words; it's more like writing music."
Greg, at 71, is a surprisingly innovative producer of literature. Most older writers follow in their own footsteps. "I not only do not follow in my own footsteps; I don't wear shoes, which makes me more of an American Indian than an East Coast gentleman. I have learned over my life that complying with staid policies and procedures has its place, and my years as a successful technical writer, editor and illustrator, have proven themselves profitable and immensely satisfying. On the other hand, my career in fine arts, cartooning and graphics production has proven to be equally satisfying, but far from profitable, but I would not go as far as to say, it's a hobby. I have the privilege and pleasure of being a Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts alumnus from the 1960s and the fun and challenges of being a Penn State graduate as of 1971.
"To give you an idea of how I feel about this, I have forgiven my wife for being a graduate of Temple University. She has not forgiven me for my attendance of Penn State; it's a simple matter of basketball versus football, in the archaic sense. Our mutual joy of being horsemen and fellow sailors, not to mention our absorbing love of music, kind-of rounds us off. Being parents and grandparents needs no evaluation or description. Being senior citizens is a joy where most might think is not possible, but it is."
