Following army training at Fort Benning, he left for Montreal rather than report to Fort Lewis, Seattle, where he was to ship out for combat duty.  He has worked as a ski instructor, and a farm labourer in British Columbia.  For the past twenty-two years he has been employed by Air Canada as a ramp worker.
