The international conference with\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e the theme \"Transformation for a Sustainable Tomorrow\", organised by the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), attracted scholars,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e practitioners and activists from around the world to listen and deliberate on\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e various aspects of communication and environment. The post-conference review\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e resulted in the selection of 24 papers to be compiled into this edited volume.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e The escalating degradation of environment locally and globally was the main\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e concern that prompted discussions on how sustainability can be advocated.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e The development process in many countries, economic activities and political\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e decisions on issues such as deforestation for timber logging, rapid urbanisation,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e pertinently points out that environmental degradation and any communication\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e on environmental change has to be grounded and located within the wider\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e context of social, politics and economics of the society. Communication and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e environmental communication for that matter have also to be understood within\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e these wider contexts.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e Many would agree that a constant and consistent flow of information\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e communicated through different channels to different stakeholders at the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e right time and destinations can help raise awareness and consciousness of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e environmental problems, protection and preservation. This vital information can\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e enable the public and stakeholders to make informed choices, and take actions\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e whenever possible. A lack of communication and information will inordinately\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e exacerbate the situation of environmental degradation. This book thus highlights\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e how the environment is being treated in the media, communicated to the society\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e and impacted nations.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e The chapters are grouped into the following sections: Theoretical and conceptual\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e issues; Media content and the environment; Politics, communication and the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e environment; Corporate social and environmental responsibility; and Citizen\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e participation, human rights and the environment.
