"As originally broadcast by CBS for just over four months - from late September 1955 through early February 1956 - the series The Adventures of Champion emerged from the production hand of Gene Autry, and starred his favorite steed, Champion the Wonder Horse. The program actually took its inspiration from an extremely popular radio show that Autry had in the 1940s; in it, 12-year-old Ricky North (Barry Curtis) owned the horse and was the only person that the animal allowed to ride on his back; the boy's other companion was Rebel, a trusty German Shepherd. Episodes typically found Ricky getting into some sort of trouble (often thanks to evil men) and the animals coming to his rescue.
