"The two programs in this documentary set travel back to the first half of the 1940s, for a re-examination of the military events that immediately followed the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Historically speaking, U.S. naval fliers and aircraft carriers received the most credit for pioneer ing the Allied Victory in the Pacific, at battles such as Leyte Gulf, Santa Cruz and Midway. But the documentaries in this set suggest that the Allied vessels of the Pacific Fleet Submarine force were the true heroes that succeeded at isolating Japan - by destroying its merchant fleet, handicapping its industrial base and making reinforcement and re-supply next to impossible. The first program in the set, Silent Victoy, provides a systematic overview of the submarine war from Pearl Harbor through Japan's surrender, while the second, Devil Boat, follows the journey of a group of Oregon PT boat vets as they attempt to resurrect and restore a vintage PT 658 to its original condition."
