Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, this is the poetic story of two disparate foreigners who hook up while touring the wild coast of Brittany. Burly but handsome Paco was born in Catalonia but works in France as a travelling representative of a shoe company. While cruising to his next sales gig, he picks up a hitchhiker, Nino, a smallish Russian who came to France two years ago to marry. He never made it to the altar and has been wandering ever since. Nino ends up stealing Paco's car and belongings. Fortunately a pretty gift-shop owner, Marinette, offers him a ride. Paco has a way with women and he and Marinette soon become lovers. Since the robbery cost Paco his job, he decides to remain in Marinette's seaside village. One day, happenstance leads him to Nino. Angrily, Paco beats the skinny fellow senseless. Strangely, he and Nino become friends afterward. While Nino recovers in the hospital, Paco resumes his relationship with Marinette but she suddenly stops everything by requesting a three-week separation so they can sort out their feelings for each other. Thus freed, Paco and Nino decide to go on a road trip to look for love. For the sexy Paco that is an easy task, but for Nino it is a challenge that becomes more daunting when he falls head-over-heels with a certain woman.
