"This loving look at the life and music of John Entwistle, the groundbreaking bassist with the Who, comes to DVD in a quality package from Image Entrainment. An Ox's Tale has been transferred to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1; the image is letterboxed on conventional televisions, and enhanced for anamorphic play on 16x9 monitors. The image looks good (if not exceptional) throughout, though the quality of some of the archive material is flawed. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo and sounds great, making the most of Entwistle's thunderous fingering. The interviews are in English, with no multiple language options or subtitles included. Bonus material on this release includes Chris Entwistle recalling the last time he saw his father alive, home video footage of John shot by Steve Luongo (who played drums with Entwistle and co-directed this film), and three songs each from two concert appearances by The John Entwistle Band, one from the 1999 Woodstock Festival and the other shot in Detroit with no details on the date or the venue. While this is a few notches short of perfect, John Entwistle: An Ox's Tale is an affectionate tribute crafted with genuine care, and fans of the man (especially bass players) will want to see this."
