Deadly Weapons/Double Agent 73 [2 Discs]

"Born Liliana Wilczkowska, the woman who came to be known as Chesty Morgan was an unlikely film star -- born in Poland, by all accounts she had a poor command of the English accent, spoke with an impenetrable accent, and had no visible talent as an actress. However, Morgan had two things going for her: her breasts, which were naturally mammoth and gave her a bust measurement of an incredible seventy-three inches. After Morgan became a celebrity on the burlesque circuit, eccentric exploitation filmmaker Doris Wishman featured her in two inarguably remarkable movies, Deadly Weapons and Double Agent 73, and Something Weird Video has made the two films available together in this special DVD package. This is a two-disc set which simply repackages SVW's earlier releases of Deadly Weapons and Double Agent 73; both films have been transferred to disc in their original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and look as good as circumstances are likely to permit. Given the odd shifts of color balance, use of recycled footage, and sometimes dodgy camerawork that's an integral part of both movies, neither film is ever going to look ""perfect,"" but despite some speckling of the source materials the transfers look sharp, with rich color saturation and a wealth of detail. The audio for both films has been transferred to disc in Dolby Digital Stereo, retaining the original monophonic sound mix for both films, and the quality is strong enough to make the amateurish post-synch dubbing and puzzling use of echo all the more obvious (and hilarious). Both discs in this package include bonus materials, but most of the same features are duplicated on both -- trailers for Deadly Weapons and Double Agent 73, and a gallery of advertising artwork for Doris Wishman's films. Deadly Weapons does include a bonus short subject on new advancements in bust enlargement technology circa the mid-Fifties (which seems to be aimed more at men with a fondness for women's breasts than women seeking useful information), and Double Agent 73 features a spicy yet splicy reel in which legendary stripper Tempest Storm has a plaster cast made of her chest for exhibition at a burlesque house (while the reel contains no credits, it's been suggested by in an article by Roger Ebert that this was shot by none other than Russ Meyer). While this set doesn't represent any sort of upgrade over the earlier releases of these two films, in truth there was very little room for improvement on Something Weird's original releases, and anyone interested in picking them up can get both films together at a significant savings over buying them separately."
