"The devil, you say! Old Scratch figures prominently in two vintage ""adults-only"" features paired up on this DVD from Something Weird Video. 1970's The Joys of Jezebel has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and looks superb on disc; the source materials are exceptionally clean, and the vivid reds and greens that dominate the picture's color scheme have been preserved with care. Unfortunately, 1964's My Tale Is Hot, which also appears in its original 1.33:1 ratio, doesn't fare as well; the print seen here is riddled with splices and the color is often mottled and distorted, though this appears to be a matter of a poor print rather than any faults in the transfer process (and given that many nudies of the era circulated in tiny print runs, it's an open question if a better print could be found). Both films are in English, with no multiple language options or subtitles. The audio for both features has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo retaining the original mono sound mixes, and The Joys of Jezebel's curious musical score comes through with flying colors, while the wisecracking in My Tale Is Hot is audible and acceptable, though the splices sometimes leave bits of dialogue muddled. Something Weird have loaded this disc with extras, as usual; there are trailers for six devilish sexploitation films, an eccentric animated short subject Satan In Church, a short burlesque reel starring celebrated stripper Candy Barr (who also appears in My Tale Is Hot), and a slideshow of press book artwork from the archives of David F. Friedman. Most interestingly, SWV have also tacked on a third feature film, Spencer Williams' celebrated all-black-cast drama Go Down Death from 1944, which seems just a bit out of place here but is certainly of interest to fans of expressive low-budget filmmaking. Despite the visual flaws of My Tale Is Hot, this package is still big fun for fans of vintage sexploitation and has been assembled with tender loving care."
