Into the Pride

"A word of explanation for the unfamiliar: in bush parlance, a ""pride"" refers to a group of lions. In this documentary series, done for Animal Planet, Dave Salmoni -- an expert on large predators -- heads out into the African bush on an unusual mission. His goals involve not simply returning to the ""wild roots"" of his early life, but saving a rogue pride of lions in the Namibian bush that is in grave danger of being eliminated. In the process, Salmoni constantly skirts on the edge of death himself, in part because this particular pride sustains a reputation for violence toward homo sapiens. As the program begins, the pride gets transferred from a Namibian national park to the Erindi Private Game Reserve. Dave's central goal, as an outsider, involves infiltrating the lion pack and forging a bond with every member -- from dominant male Brutus to cubs Rough and Tumble.
