This is the final part of Tom Nettles trilogy on the Baptist Movement. Here he traces some of the modern events and personalities that have shaped the contemporary Baptist church. One key ingredient is the downgrade of scriptural authority in the church: Nettles traces it through the eyes of C.H. Spurgeon and John Clifford in Britain - and the influences of A.H. Strong, E.Y. Mullins and the Baptist modernists in America. Nettles examines Issues between church and society that inevitably formulate out of Baptist theology. Some are still sources of controversy - like the separation of church and state. The 'renewed contours' of the present day Baptist movement are also explored - with particular reference to recent changes in the Southern Baptist Convention.

About the Author:
Tom Nettles taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Professor of Church History and Chair of the department); Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary
