Iggy Pop!: Live in San Fran 1981

"This 1981 recording of Iggy Pop and his band, shot at an unnamed San Francisco venue while the punk icon was touring behind his less-than-stellar Party album, gets a decent if unspectacular presentation on DVD. Iggy Pop: Live in San Francisco was produced by Joe Rees and his team at the punk video archive Target Video, and as is the case with many Target releases, the video quality often leaves something to be desired, with the images often smeary and overloaded with red or blue lighting, though the live audio mix is reasonably strong and the up-close camerawork gives viewers a good feel for the energy of the performance. Too bad the burned-in Target copyright notice at the bottom of the screen couldn't have been removed, though. The songs are performed in English, with no multi-lingual subtitles. The audio is presented in its original two-channel stereo mix (mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo), as well as a slightly hollow-sounding Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix. A trailer for the Iggy and the Stooges: Live in Detroit DVD is the only bonus item. In all, an OK release for Iggy fans, though there are certainly better performance DVDs of the world's forgotten boy on the market, and more intriguing titles in the Target catalog awaiting DVD release."
