"2002 saw the release of a pair of DVDs under the title of Cool Summer -- one which featured performances from Dexter Gordon and McCoy Tyner, while the other included Bobby Hutcherson and Flora Purim. The latter version features a pair of sets recorded in front of a small audience at the Paul Masson Vineyards in California (although no date is given as to when the show was recorded, the bandmembers' fashion sense suggest it was probably from the '70s). Vibraphonist Hutcherson leads his quartet (standup bassist James Leony, drummer Eddie Marshall, and pianist Jessica Williams) through a half-hour set comprised of some sterling improvisation. Vocalist Purim heads a larger group who also specializes in improv, but manages to also include a rendition of her international hit ""Nothing Will Be As It Was Tomorrow"" (Purim's set is closely aligned to funk, while Hutcherson's is strictly jazz). On the DVD, you can skip to a specific song of Hutcherson's set, while Purim's performance can only be viewed in its entirety. Also included on the Bobby Hutcherson/Flora Purim edition of Cool Summer are up-to-date biographies on both artists, as well as on several members of their backing bands."
