"The hilarious slasher spoof Club Dread is back for a second helping, presented here in a deluxe unrated cut complete with killer extras from 20th Century Fox. So what's new about this edition? How does it stack up against the previous theatrical cut? Well, for starters, the extended version adds 15 extra minutes into the film that range from little choice moments here and there to another entire plot featuring two detectives that audiences didn't get to see originally (though their demise was seen in the trailer, which, ironically enough, makes its DVD debut here as well). In addition, an impressive 22 deleted/extended scenes totaling 20 extra minutes have been included in the extras menu. Their quality -- just like the new footage in the extended version -- is split between some worthwhile stuff to some not so hot. They're also grouped in a strange way, with some scenes that were in the alternate cut reappearing in this section, making going through them a bit of a chore if you attack them after sitting through the movie on this disc. Jay Chandrasekhar and Erik Stolhanske supply commentary for all of the deleted scenes, with two feature-length commentaries from the last disc repeated during the movie (with newly added bits to cover the inserted footage) as Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, and Paul Soter lend their humorous thoughts on the other track. Technically, the film is presented in its anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen format, with a fine 5.1 Dolby Surround sound option. Unfortunately, this release reeks of the kind of double dipping that most studios were taking part in around the time of this release. The packaging is also highly misleading, making customers think that they're getting a sexier or more gory film, when in fact, they're buying an edition that's ""unrated"" only because it wasn't submitted to the MPAA ratings board. (In fact, there's no doubt that it would be rated exactly the same in this format as it was the last one!) Still, this is the edition of Club Dread that many were dying for when the first release came out, so here it is! Now all you have to decide is simply which one to watch when you're feeling in that Coconut Pete kind of mood."
