"About a Boy comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Spanish subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by directors Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz, outtakes, a making-of featurette, music videos from soundtrack creator Badly Drawn Boy, and an English to English dictionary. Those with a DVD-ROM drive may access additional extras. This is a fine release for what it is, but the same extras are available with a widescreen transfer on a different edition. That disc is preferable."
