Coastal resort-town police chief Brody (Roy Scheider) has reason to believe that a dangerous white shark is in the vicinity, and he wants the beaches closed. As in the original Jaws, the town council is more concerned with tourism than with the possibility of death and mayhem, which is exactly what results when they refuse to close the beaches. Unable to find a worthy shark hunter, Brody is forced to take on the nemesis himself in a thrilling finale in which nearly the entire waterfront is destroyed.
