After the beginning of WW II, a small plane crashes in a remote area of the North African desert. A seriously burned Englishman and a Canadian nurse remain behind in a Tuscan monastery. Another Canadian appears, followed by two more refugees. Eventually the tragic secrets of the characters are revealed.
