Great Composers: Mahler

This BBC production examines the life and works of the great 20th century Austrian composer Gustav Mahler. Mahler's works are characterized by painful emotions, tragedy, and death. He called each of his symphonies "a universe." In this video, several of his best-known pieces are presented. There is also a look at the more personal side of Mahler, whose life was filled with the dramatic intrigue and tragedies that one might expect to find in one of his operatic compositions.
