As an instrumental chamber ensemble, The Rosamunde Quartet took shape in Munich, Germany in the early 1990s. Its origins were somewhat unique, in the sense that its members - violist Helmut NicolaI, cellist Anja Lechner, and violinists Andreas Reiner and Simon Fordham - had each established tremendous success as solo acts long prior to their formation as a foursome. For many years, the group looked to a conductor, Andreas Reiner, as their mentor; even after Reiner's death in 1996, his legacy continued to shape the group's direction and musical leanings. This biographical documentary from 1999 profiles the said quartet during performances, during rehearsals, and on the road; it also observes the individual musicians in their day-to-day lives.
