Sites of the World's Cultures: Teotihuacan - City of the Gods

Countless mysteries enshroud the ancient culture of Teotihuac?n, a pre-Spanish civilization in the Mexican highlands that began to develop around 200 B.C. Village communities soon melded into an enormous urban sprawl, spanning 20 km2 and hallmarked by monolithic, precisely-constructed pyramids. By the mid-700s, however, the city experienced a catastrophic collapse - leaving scant clues about the people, language and written communication of this mysterious community. This documentary program speculates on the components of Teotihuac?n life and culture by examining the traces left behind, and contrasts what we do know about it with the remnants of Indian civilizations in contemporary Mexico.
