Tokyo Story [2 Discs] [Criterion Collection]

"Criterion brings their trademark touch to the DVD release of one of Japanese master Yasujiro Ozu's greatest films. Tokyo Story is presented as close as possible to its original glory, in a full-screen, 1.33:1 image with restored mono soundtrack. Scholar David Desser provides commentary on the film, and cinematographer Yuharu Atsuta is interviewed separately. Further comments on the master are provided by author David Bordwell in an essay provided on the disc, as well as in the short documentary ""Talking with Ozu,"" in which such current filmmakers as Wim Wenders and Claire Denis offer their thoughts on his films. Also included is I Lived But..., a full-length documentary from 1983 about the filmmaker's life and philosophy of art. Improved subtitling and trailers round out yet another lavish disc from Criterion."
