The End of the Affair

"Love, jealousy, and guilt collide in the original 1955 drama The End of the Affair. Columbia has done a nice job making sure that this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer looks clear and crisp (with a 1.33:1 full frame version also included on the disc). A few signs of age are present, including some nicks and scratches, though overall this is a very nice looking transfer that should please fans. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono and sounds very flat and lifeless. This soundtrack is adequate for the film, though it's not very impressive even for a 2.0 mix. Except for a small amount of distortion in the music, this is a very clear and concise sound mix. Also included on this disc are English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai subtitles. The only extra features to be found on this disc is a ""making-of"" featurette which is sadly for the 1999 remake, a few talent files, and theatrical trailers for the movies Alvarez Kelly, The Caine Mutiny, and the The End of the Affair 1999 remake. Bafflingly, there is no trailer for this original 1955 version. This is a passable, if disappointing, edition of this classic film."
