Men Without Law

Having left films to tour with a circus at the advent of talkies, Buck Jones returned to the screen under a contract from poverty-row producer Sol Lesser. Men Without Law, in which Jones returns to Arizona after the war to find his own brother having joined an outlaw gang, was the star's second vehicle for Lesser and is considered one of his very best. Western film historian Jon Tuska has gone as far as listing the film among the 100 finest Westerns ever made. Released by burgeoning poverty row company Columbia, the Jones-Sol Lesser series remains one of the more fondly remembered from the period.
