La Cenerentola [2 Discs]

Gioachino Rossini adapted his 1817 opera +La Cenerentola from the classic fairy tale Cinderella, but famously insisted on removing all supernatural elements from the narrative; the resultant work arguably attained as much popularity as anything else he had done. That opera comes to life in this 2008 stage production by the Gran Teatre del Liceu; it stars American performer Joyce di Donato in the title role (a character also known as Angelina); Juan Diego Fl?rez as Don Ramiro and David Men?ndez as Dandini. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu provide musical accompaniment under the baton of Patrick Summers; Joan Font directs for the stage.
